CAROB FLOUR
(FROM PODS OF PERUVIAN CAROB-TREE
Prosopis pallida)



IDENTIFICATION

The Carob Flour has different presentations (fine, thick, etc.) and it is use for food.
In Peru and Bolivia this product is well-known like Carob Flour.
In Argentina and Chile is called: Horchata or Aloja.
This product has different names in English like: Peruvian Carob Flour, Carob-Tree Flour, Kiawe Flour (Hawaii - USA).

DESCRIPTION

The Carob Flour is produced with the sheath of the Carob (Prosopis pallida), that is one of the driest trees in Peru, Colombia and Ecuador. We find a lot of these kind of trees in Peru and this tree grows up very quickly, for this reason we find so many forest over one of the most desolate areas of Peru. The climate helps to the trees to grow up that’s why we find many varieties like Prosopis juliflora, that comes from Puerto Rico and other parts of the Caribbean.

One of the most important things that the Carob Flour give us is the carbohydrates, specially the sucrose. This product help the Carob Flour to be sweeter. For this reason this is a very energetic product, but it would be better if you involve the Carob Flour with other kind of cereals.

Fibers are very important in the Carob Flour too, because fibers and carbohydrates help our digestion, potassium is very important too, specially for our health.

The Carob Flour help the industry development food to grow up, and help to look for a new fountain of animal foods. That’s why Carob Flour has become in one of the most important natural substances. Actually we can find people who use this product for humans in instead of cocoa.

From the Carob Flour we can obtain so many useful products like "Carob Syrup", that is energetic and it's used for children and adults. You can use the Carob coffee as a fountain of energy.

USES

Meal composition use many ingredients that can be used for humans and for different kind of animal’s food. The Carob flour is an excellent product that can be used in instead of other similar ingredients, for this reason it’s very important in the development of new kind of products. That’s why some industries use this product to improve the quantity of sales.

The Carob Flour can be used for human meal because this product help to improve the sugar taste in different products like cakes, chocolate cookies, bread, etc., but specially in products that need more level of fibers. If you want you can use the Carob flour in other specialties, for example in food that need fibers and sugar. (soups, seasoning, ice cream stall, maize much). So we can use it cook recipes as in instead of other kind of flours.

STORAGE

Keep in a dry and clean place.
After the first time you open the packing, you should put the product into a safe place or put the packing into a cover recipient.
